36 hours.
road. music.
best. run. ever. snow, trail, sunrise, cold. hotties in the mittens. santa fe in the valley.
she's on the way.
i’m in santa fe, by myself, outdoors, it’s cold, drinking coffee with mexican chili chocolate - just watching the world go by. i’ve taken a run in the snow on a red dirt trail and watched the sun rise. i’ve already visited the folk art museum to see handicrafts by people around the world and be filled with inspiration. i’m going to see beautiful things in galleries this day, eat small snacks, buy a powerball ticket with some lucky numbers and drive home through taos to stop at el taoseno for sopapillas. can 36 hours restore a person? yes.
simple, not intricate this time.
i’ve been doing some small, intricate designs and decided to go larger and simpler this time. this is me sipping a spicy mexican chili chocolate latte, sitting outside on a cold day in Santa Fe recently. it’s something i want to remember.
new. what shape will it take?
not sure yet. but here goes. on red this time.
she's done.
this one is done, January 2022. Today I’ll get ready for a new one. I don’t have an idea on the new on yet. Hmm. I do have fabric. So I’ll get that ready and put on the frame.
open spaces.
there are some open spaces in the fabric and i’ll be thinking about how to fill them. really enjoying this one.
taking it's own path.
it’s a mix of old threads, stitches and beads. went to santa fe to get a few new beads, amazing trip.
a life of it's own.
i have no idea where this one is going. it has a life of it’s own.
time. pressure.
it’s like the doodles i draw while on the phone.
thought i’d try to recreate the doodling i do during meetings on fabric. could go anywhere with this one.
Year in Review.
i love my running girls. thank you for all the miles, laurie and michelle. for the friendship and conversations, year over year. couldn’t make it through without you. wouldn’t want to. (love.)
me encanta.
she’s done. i decided to fill in the toe with 2021. maybe someday we’ll look back and say, oh…2021. what a year. i’ll finish her up soon. heading to DC to see LZ for Thanksgiving.
already ready for the next stocking. have the idea before i’v even finished this one. which is rare. sometimes it takes a long time to come up with the next thought.but not this time. go!
what one can do in 36 hours.
what one can accomplish in short order is remarkable. a little focus, some netflix, podcasts…head out of the game. loving this one and it won’t take much longer. did i mention i have the next idea and super excited about it? rare. ready.
new lamp.
got this lamp for my sewing room. looked at many lamps and then decided pretty, but non-traditional with the tall shade and round ceramic base. white on white like the pic. will love turning this on while beading.
spontaneous. unexpected.
taking some time to be creative. energize.
fill in the blanks.
i don’t know what is next. but have the general shape. will fill in the space with something different than expected (expected here would be beads of solid bright colors directionally matching the blank blank space as thread would do.) instead i’m going to vary size, weight and direction, plus use unique thread from past projects here. so a bit recycled, but new.
me plus you.
leaning into my creativity blended with mexican otomi tradition. li zhi and i saw Hung Liu at the Nat’l Portrait Gallery. hung used famous images and transformed them into her own creations, inspiring greater work through collaboration. similarly it is inspiring to use traditional design mixed with me.
a new project.
i love starting new things. but i don’t always know where the things will go. where will the ideas take themselves? how will they become their own? pero amo a todas cosas mexicanas, la gente, el país. el arte. y por todo lo desconocido…mejor explorar y empezar. lo mas difícil es la carrera que no corrimos.
done.
a great weekend so far. couple of long runs, some podcasts, and White Lotus. and a finished stocking. i like it! tomorrow i’ll put the finishing touches on and start the new project. yes!
